This was a consequence of the realisation of the precarious nature of Zambia's foreign exchange earning base and the need to diversify this base. Fluctuations in international commodity prices and the general vicissitudes of the international market in the 70s and 80s exposed Zambia's foreign exchange vulnerabili ty.
Government, therefore, established the Export Board through the Export Development Act No. 25 of 1985 as amended by Act No. 29 of 1994 and its basic functions are the following:
