E-mail Problems

Authentication Failure

This error indicates that either the Username or Password have been entered incorrectly or the incoming mail server has been entered incorrectly.

  • Check to make sure your Caps Lock key is not on. Your username is case sensitive. For instance, if your username is: computer, you cannot enter Computer or COMPUTER. Make sure your Username is in lower case when dialing into Zamnet. (Your e-mail address is given by username@zamnet.zm)
  • Also remember that passwords are CASE-SENSITIVE! So 'PASSword' is different to password
  • Are you sure that your password is correct? Please call Zamnet Support if you need to reset your password.
  • Check your e-mail settings and ensure that they are correct

I can connect okay but get time-out errors when I download e-mail

Server failed to respond within a given time limit. This may be due to an unreasonably low time-out setting, or the server may be busy.


OUTLOOK EXPRESS

Increase the time-out settings. To do this, click on Tools then Accounts.
Click on Mail, and highlight your Zamnet E-mail accounts friendly name.
Then click on Properties.
Click on Advanced then move the slider bar labeled "Server Time-outs" more to the right. About 5 minutes is probably sufficient time to allow for a busy server, although there may be occasions when longer may be required.

 

EUDORA LIGHT

Increase the time-out settings.To do this, click on Tools then Options.
Click on Advanced Network Then change the number in "Network Time-out after" to 300. This is probably sufficient time to allow for a busy server, although there may be occasions when longer may be required.

Microsoft Outlook

Increase the time-out settings. To do this, click on Tools then Services.
Highlight your Zamnet E-mail accounts name. Then click on Properties.
Click on Advanced then move the slider bar labeled "Server Time-outs" more to the right. About 5 minutes is probably sufficient time to allow for a busy server, although there may be occasions when longer may be required.

I can't send or receive e-mail Why?

The POP3 and SMTP servers for Zamnet are incorrectly set up. The problem can be solved by following the solution below.

OUTLOOK EXPRESS

    Open Outlook Express 
   Click on TOOLS menu 
   Click on ACCOUNTS 
   Click on MAIL tab 
   Highlight your Zamnet account and click on PROPERTIES 
   Click on SERVERS tab 
   Ensure that OUTGOING MAIL (SMTP) is set to 

a) smtp.zamnet.zm  (Lusaka Subscribers)
b) mail1.zamnet.zm (Kitwe Subscribers)
c) zambezi.zamnet.zm (Livingstone Subscribers)
Ensure that INCOMING MAIL (POP3) is set to

a) pop3.zamnet.zm (Lusaka Subscribers) or mail.zamnet.zm (Lusaka Subscribers who joined before 10/98)
b) mail1.zamnet.zm (Kitwe Subscribers)
c) zambezi.zamnet.zm (Livingstone Subscribers)

   Click APPLY and then OK 
   Click CLOSE 
   
   Check your e-mail again and it should connect to the zamnet mail server.



EUDORA LIGHT
Open Eudora
Click on TOOLS menu
Click on OPTIONS
Click on CHECKING MAIL
Ensure that POP ACCOUNT is set to

a) username@pop3.zamnet.zm (Lusaka Subscribers) or username@mail.zamnet.zm (Lusaka Subscribers who joined before 10/98)
b) username@mail1.zamnet.zm (Kitwe Subscribers)
c) username@zambezi.zamnet.zm (Livingstone Subscribers)


Click on SENDING MAIL
Ensure that SMTP server is set to

a) smtp.zamnet.zm (Lusaka Subscribers)
b) mail1.zamnet.zm (Kitwe Subscribers)
c) zambezi.zamnet.zm (Livingstone Subscribers)

Click OK
Click CLOSE

Check your e-mail again and it should connect to the zamnet mail server.

Outlook Express/Eudora gets stuck downloading e-mail messages

When you try to download your e-mail, the program gets stuck downloading the same e-mail message.

This is because one of your emails is too large and is thus stuck and needs to be deleted.

Contact the zamnet customer support crew to delete it or go to the zamnet offices with a floppy diskette so that you can go and retrieve it from there before it is deleted.
