Building capacity of entrepreneurs vital
By KALONDE NYATIGOVERNMENT has said building capacity among entrepreneurs is necessary for growth of the private sector and will earn the country more revenue.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Felix Mutati said his ministry will therefore ensure that it facilitates participation of entrepreneurs in commercial, trade and industrial activities.
In a speech read for him at the Women in Business seminar in Lusaka by Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) director of micro, small and medium enterprise Windi Matoka, Mr Mutati observed that the private sector is important for national growth and Government will ensure that it is fully supported.
“As Government we are fully aware of the efforts that you are making as entrepreneurs and we would like to encourage you by ensuring that the relevant facilities are in place,” he said.
Mr Mutati also pledged commitment to enhance the full participation of the citizens in developmental programmes and ensure that the economy is private-sector driven.
Mr Mutati said in order to enhance private sector growth, Government has embarked on a number of policy interventions such as the private sector development reform programme (PSDRP).
The programme is aimed at reducing the cost of doing business in Zambia and the streamlining business processes while the Citizens Economic Empowerment Policy is meant to empower citizens.
He also challenged the women to fully use the information obtained from the seminar so that they can develop their businesses.
And Alchemy Human Resources solutions manager Rhinnah Phiri said her organisation will continue holding seminars aimed at developing business in all sectors.
Ms Phiri said many firms lack information on how to access finance and how to grow their businesses and that equipping them with information is important if they are to develop.
She said her organisation will soon conduct seminars aimed at building capacity among women entrepreneurs across the country.
Over 100 entrepreneurs participated in the two-day seminar.
